Directed by Avijit Sen, Projapati is a Bengali drama film starring Mithun Chakraborty and Dev in lead roles. Other significant actors in the movie include Mamata Shankar, Shweta Bhattacharya, Koushani Mukherjee, Ambarish Bhattacharya, Kharaj Mukherjee, and Biswanath Basu. The film was released in theaters on December 23, 2022, and it became a hit at the box office, grossing approximately 12 crores. In 2022, it rose to become the third-highest-grossing movie in the history of Bengali cinema.
According to a news source, Avijit Sen stated that the film is very precious to him. In response to the film’s box office success, he said, “Both Mithun Da and Dev were outstanding in expressing the demanding demands of their different roles and maintaining a solid balance of their onscreen chemistry, which appealed to audiences across the country. After the film got released in other parts of India such as Maharashtra, South India, and the North East, people started raving about it, Projapati has been released in international markets such as the United States, United Arab Emirates, and Canada, where we also have houseful shows in various theaters.”
Meanwhile, Atanu Raychaudhuri, the producer, stated, “Projapati has ruled the box office in West Bengal for the past 50 days, with regular houseful shows. The film made Bengali movie history by generating Rs 1 crore in a single day. It has also been a benefit for single-screen theaters, since with the debut of this film, many such closed theaters reopened their doors to moviegoers in areas where the film is playing to filled houses. We have also noted a rise in the overall number of theaters and shows in national and international markets where the film was released. This is our third critically acclaimed and financially successful collaboration with Dev. We are overjoyed with the audience’s decision.”
Atanu Raychaudhuri and Avijit Sen co-wrote the movie’s plot. Prasen wrote the lyrics for the songs in collaboration with Anupam Roy and Surojit Chatterjee, while Subhadip Das wrote the script and the dialogs in the movie.
What is the movie about?
The story revolves around a father and his son, with Mithun Chakraborty playing Gaur, an aging widower who wants his son Joy (Dev) to marry and believes that a larger family will alleviate his loneliness. His son, a busy wedding planner, does not appear to be interested in getting married. However, things change when Gaur’s childhood friend Kusum enters the story.
